The PEN3D CoRTN Model is a strict interpretation of the method contained in the publication “Calculation of Road Traffic Noise”, London:  Her Majesty's Stationery Office 1988.

The PEN3D software was originally developed in 1993 and has been in constant development and refinement.

The model incorporates:

L10(18 hour) and L10(1 hour);
Corrections for Mean Traffic Speed and Percentage Heavy Vehicles;
Correction for gradient;
Correction for distance;
Correction for ground absorption;
Correction for barriers
Correction for angle of view;
Correction for low traffic flow;
Correction for opposite facade, and;
Correction for retained cut.

The model also includes the standard CoRTN correction for road surfaces as well as a user defined road surface correction.

All Point and Batch calculations in PEN3D CoRTN model are facade corrected i.e. include the +2.5 dB(A) facade correction.

The following sections describe the excess attenuation factors and the implementation within PEN3D.
